This sweet boy is at risk due to a painful, persistent “happy tail” injury that has not healed despite repeated treatment in the shelter. Happy tail occurs when a dog repeatedly strikes the end of their tail against hard surfaces while wagging. The wound reopens over and over, causing bleeding, ulceration, pain, and infection risk. Manny has required multiple sedations, bandage changes, medications, and an e-collar, but the shelter environment is making it nearly impossible for his tail to heal. Despite everything, Manny remains a friendly boy who wants companionship. Shelter staff describe him as timid but sweet, seeking comfort from people and closely bonded to his kennel mate.
