Mugman’s Resentment || FINALLY GOT THIS DONE AFTER A WHOLE MONTH. This is my first time doing something like this. here’s an explanation if this animatic left you feeling abit confused: With the Devil defeated and the soul contracts destroyed, the citizens of Inkwell Isle finally have a reason to celebrate. Celebration breaks out across isles 1-3, newspapers rush to tell the story, and everyone wants to thank the heroes responsible for their freedom. The problem is that only one hero seems to be getting recognition. Everywhere Mugman looks, people praised Cuphead. The newspapers features Cuphead's face on the front page with Mugman’s face cropped out. The story of the brothers defeating the devil has Cuphead’s face plastered on the back of the book and name on the front. Cuphead’s name becomes attached to the victory as if he accomplished everything on his own. “the CUPHEAD show”, “CUPHEAD don’t deal with the devil”, “The mighty CUPHEAD adventure”. At first, Mugman tries not to let it bother him. He tells himself it makes sense. Cuphead has always been more outgoing, more noticeable. Maybe people are just excited..after all, he is too. Maybe things will settle down once the celebrations are over. But it doesn’t. As time passes, Mugman starts noticing things he hadn't paid attention to before. Whenever Mugman is brought up at all, it's usually as an afterthought. Mugman fought every battle alongside Cuphead, faced the same dangers, and shared every victory. Yet history seems determined to remember only one of them. Despite his growing frustration, Mugman continues to try supporting his brother. But the hurt slowly turns into jealousy, and eventually resentment. Meanwhile, Cuphead has no idea how deeply this is affecting Mugman. He's caught up in the praise and doesn't realize how uneven the attention has become. Even when he eventually notices people leaving Mugman out of the story, he doesn't understand how much damage has already been done. When Cuphead finally tries to talk about it, the conversation quickly turns into an argument. Months of bottled-up emotions spill out at once. Mugman feels ignored and forgotten, while Cuphead feels unfairly blamed for something he never intended. The fight ends with Mugman walking away with tears in his eyes and Cuphead feeling guilty. Cuphead assumes they'll make up like they always do. This time, they don't. Although the celebrations eventually end, Mugman's feelings remain. Every comparison, every forgotten contribution, and every reminder that he'll never be seen the same way as Cuphead weighs on him more heavily. Over time, his loneliness and resentment begin to consume him. After their argument, Mugman leaves the house to clear his head, but instead of that, Mugman finds himself face to face with the Devil. To his surprise, the Devil isn't looking for a fight. Instead, he offers sympathy. Mugman, unaware that the Devil had been watching the treatment unfold from afar. He tells Mugman everything he wants to hear, that he's strong, deserving, and worthy of recognition…maybe even more than Cuphead. He points out every insecurity Mugman has been hiding and slowly chips away at his defenses. Then the Devil offers him a deal. "What if they finally saw you? What if they respected you? What if, for once, you weren't standing in your brother's shadow?" The offer sounds like everything Mugman has been longing for. "Everything you've ever wanted can be yours, All it takes is one handshake." Blinded by loneliness, desperation, and months of feeling invisible, Mugman hesitates before finally taking the Devil's hand. — I don’t plan to make this into an actual story, this is just how I imagine an alternative universe if Mugman were to join the Devil’s side while Cuphead was still the same.
