A big problem i have with Eloise (and i generally like her a lot) is that she critizised everybody for being close minded and seeing marriage as a must but she was just as close minded with making fun/critizising the people around her that chose to be married and are happy with that

To be fair a lot of the Bridgerton girls have a romanticised view of love and marriage cause of their household. Their household and their parent’s relationship wasn’t the norm. Eloise is VERY AWARE of that. The danger, the lack of autonomy, and the fact that they don’t have other options besides marriage. Maybe she doesn’t « buy in » and sees it for what it is… it’s perpetual guardianship for life…like a child in that era

Eloise have a choices. She’s RICH AND PRIVILEGED. Something no other household has on their scale because they are suppose to be THEE noble family. And for years Eloise got to say no to whatever she didn’t want to do. Literally when she announce she was done with the marriage Mart, Violet says ok then help hyacinth and then Eloise shit on hyacinth every moment. she has no hobbies, she wants independence but doesn’t do anything. That’s why she was so jealous of pen bc atleast she had her writing. And Penelope showed her you CAN be a a women and have something that is yours. You CAN have a career and be marriage. Not all women but Eloise can. But she just decides to sulk, be miserable, and crap on everybody.

I side with Eloise on this bc everyone in society has the same or similar views on marriage while Eloise does not. Hyacinth has several other ppl she can go and talk to about being excited to get married and have kids. While Eloise has no one, her bsf she thought felt the same married her brother and Kate who was also a spinster by choice also ended up getting married. Although Eloise may be more outspoken about not wanting to get married, in reality she doesn’t actually have someone to connect with who feels the same. Someone she can relate to, so that she doesn’t feel so alone or misunderstood
