I tell my parents to spend everything before they pass so they enjoy what they worked hard to earn.

If you look into someone else’s cup it’s to be sure they have enough. 💕

I told my presents to live their lives, it was their money to do that with. Up until my mother passed a few years ago, they had numerous holidays and meals out, right up into their 80s . Just how it should be.

My great grandmother always told me I was the most Irish of all her grandchildren. My looks, my obsession with the culture, all of it. She had a small gold claddagh ring that she’d show me every time I saw her and say “when I pass, this is getting passed on to you”. She passed late last year and my great aunt asked again (she’d been asking for a while) what all the family wanted from her possessions. My mom, my grandma and I only asked for the ring, as it had gone missing when my great grandparents had moved several years earlier. Thankfully, my family are all good people, because it was found and given to me at her service. The craziest part was that when I went to put it on, it seemed too small at first and I said “that’s okay, I bought a chain just in case” but a minute later, I tried to put it on again, and it was a perfect fit 🥹 I wear it every day now and still think of her. And when my goddaughter looks at it I tell her “one day, when you’re older, I’m going to give this to you.”

when my grandparents passed, the grandkids only got sentimental things. The bulk of the estate went to their children divided equally. I have my grandpa's straw hat, and I couldn't be happier!

When my grandma passed away the only thing I asked for was a stuffed animal cat I made for her when I was a teenager, because she loved it so much! She wouldn’t let her great grand children play with it. It had a seat in her living room. I was 51. My cousins wanted it too, but I ultimately got it and I display it in a case. I love my grandma ❤️

Looking into someone’s cup to make sure they have enough is something that should be said repeatedly. 🥹

My grandmother passed away last week. When we were cleaning out her house over a year ago I wanted her brass bell, tea pot, and tea cup collections...all of which have no real value, but are sentimental to me. I also ended up with a few pieces of furniture not one else wanted.

I looked into your cup to be sure you had enough. You looked into mine to be sure I didn’t have more than you. We are not the same.

My grandparents asked me what I would want when they pass and I said “ for yall not to go anywhere, no amount of money or stuff will amount to their presence in my life”

My grandparents' Wills said everyone had to buy what they wanted and auction the rest. They had 12 kids and no one fought over anything. If more than 1 person wanted an item, it went to the auction pile. My most prized possession is the kids' rocking chair that my grandparents had on their front porch for me. My grandfather painted it several times and my grandmother wove the seat when the old one broke. That seat is still tight today even after my son and granddaughter used it when they were little.

The only thing I wanted from my grandma when she passed was her nativity set. She gave it to me 10 years ago. She passed in October and I was still too broken up about her passing to put it out this year. I would have much rather still had her around.

If you ask most people whose parents have passed away, we’d give any money left to us back just to have more time with them. I know I would

This gold bracelet is my inheritance from my maternal grandmother. It is the most important piece of jewelry I own and I wear it every. single. day. I don't need money. I don't need jack shit. This bracelet is everything I could have wanted and more. it's a piece of her I have with me all the time. 🥰

I was always raised on this: if you are so focused on what someone else has then you won’t appreciate what you do have. In turn I teach my children that focusing on what someone else has will only make you miserable, instead look at what you have and know that it is enough because there are lots of people that aren’t as lucky as you are. Just like I was raised do things myself, but always check to see if someone needs help. We don’t do things and expect something in return, we do things because it is the right thing to do.

My parents never discussed money, even now. I’m the executor of their estate and they still won’t tell me anything. Just that their paperwork is in a filing cabinet.
