@wyattmccubbin: The Songwriter Artist: Volume Five Darrell Scott Darrell Scott has one of the most unmistakable voices & distinct writing styles of all time. He is a Songwriter Artist I’ve looked up to & admired for as long as I can remember. Before I ever knew about Darrell Scott’s records I was stopped in my tracks by a Patty Loveless recording called “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive.” It absolutely KILLED me.. Still does.. but more importantly it made me want to look up who wrote it. In my world that is the highest compliment there is. The way he described eastern Kentucky & the life of a coal miner made me feel like I was right there in Harlan County.. “Where the sun comes up about ten in the mornin’ & the sun goes down about three in the day..” That song is an absolute STANDARD. His songs have been recorded by Travis Tritt, The Dixie Chicks, Patty Loveless, Brad Paisley, Keb Mo & many others. Aloha From Nashville is a Darrell Scott album I think everyone should own. Another one is actually an album of songs written by Ben Bullington that Darrell recorded.. Thanksgiving 1985 is brilliant. The way he interpreted those songs he didn’t even write shines a light on how much of a true artist he really is. “It’s a Great Day To Be Alive.” Everybody knows that one.. But we sure take how great it is for granted. How simple it is.. How it makes you feel when it comes on.. How it makes you smile.. Every. Single. Time. Thank you for the timeless music, Darrell Scott. #DarrellScott
