Why does the US not have more laws in place to support the employees? The laws side more with the corporation. What can we do to make real change in the US? For example, Finland has incredible employee protection laws.

I’ve come to learn after being fired by HR immediately after reporting my supervisor for retaliation, that we basically have no rights unless you have a lawyer on retainer or are best friends with a lawyer. Called every employment law firm this side of the cascades and none feel it’s worth their time.

Unfortunately even when they do this they have the ability to fire you for any reason for any time - except for discriminatory reasons. They’ll just say you are no longer a good fit for the company, which is why it’s always good to go to a lawyer all the same to get your severance.

That happened to me at the last job- I only ever took two vacations a year to go see family across the country. The last time I took vacation last August I came back to a PIP because I took a vacation where I turned off my phone and computer and enjoyed a real vacation. I was let go not two months after I got back.

How about being told to take on additional duties as it falls under “other duties as assigned”, yet the rest of the team is getting additional pay for doing extras duties.

The first option was my situation bc Supervisor denied my vacation request I put in for 6 months in advance went over her head to Manager who approved my request. Shortly after got called into HR stating I was not a good fit for them after working there for a long while.

I gave mine an email to give a heads up on an incident in our parking lot at midnight. 4 employees including myself were involved. the people from the incident never called to complain and they were disciplining based on my email. the "investigation" where they grilled me and didn't speak to the other 3 (one a supervisor) ended up with me getting a final written warning despite not having a previous written warning. the manager smiled the whole time. HR told me they decided not to fire me. I feel they didn't fire me because they didn't talk to the others and we are short staffed as it is. But they were mad I didn't put myself into a dangerous situation by confronting the people in the parking lot in the dark knowing there was at least one person angry and yelling. 😐

I got laid off when I talked to hr regarding my interim manager (bullying). I got laid off when I took sick call (same day termination btw). I got laid off when I came back after my maternity leave (they said they dont need me anymore) -from a Canadian employee
