I'm a psychologist. Here are things I say to clients every day. 🧠 1. "You don't own your thoughts. They visit you." You don't have to believe every thought your brain sends. Thoughts are brain activity, not facts. 2. "Your brain isn't built to make you happy. It's built to keep you alive." Of course it scans for danger, replays mistakes, imagines worst-case scenarios. That's not a broken brain. That's a survival brain doing its job. 3. "You can't think your way out of a feeling. But you can feel your way into a new way of thinking." Processing emotions isn't a weakness. It's the fastest way through. 4. "Identity is practice, not personality." You're not just an anxious person. You're a person who has practised anxious patterns. Change the pattern, change the person. 5. "Stress isn't the enemy. Chronic stress with no recovery is." Short bursts of stress build resilience. It's the never-switching-off that burns you out. 6. "Emotions are data, not directives." They tell you something matters. They don't always tell you what's true. You can feel anxious and still be safe. 7. "We cannot change what we don't notice." Awareness isn't the whole answer.. but nothing changes without it.
