Let’s be honest… every basketball player has thought about jumping higher at some point 🤣🚀 Vertical jump performance isn’t determined by a single exercise. Instead, it’s influenced by a range of athletic qualities including strength, power, reactive ability, ankle stiffness, and jump-specific coordination. Here are 5 exercises that I frequently use in my own training and my athletes’ programs 👇🏽 ✅ Box Squat — one of my favourite exercises for developing maximal lower body strength and force production 💪🏽 🗒️ Aim for 3–5 sets x 3–6 reps ✅ Hang Power Clean — great for developing explosive power and rate of force development ⚡️ 🗒️ Aim for 3–5 sets x 2–5 reps ✅ Depth Jump — develops reactive strength and the ability to rapidly absorb and reproduce force 🦘 🗒️ Aim for 3–5 sets x 3–5 reps ✅ Ankle-Specific Overcoming ISO — develops calf strength, force transfer, and stiffness through the ankle-foot complex 🦶🏽 🗒️ Aim for 3–5 sets x 3–5 maximal efforts of 3–5s ✅ DB Countermovement Jump — a little bit of specificity sprinkled in there. Great for developing jump-specific power, intent, and coordination 🏀 🗒️ Aim for 3–5 sets x 3–5 reps 📍These exercises are not the be-all and end-all for improving vertical jump performance. There are plenty of other exercises that train similar qualities. However, the athletic qualities they develop are all important pieces of the puzzle when it comes to jumping higher.
