@naomibabybu: Is your taste really your own or is it just something you saw on Pinterest? I do love my diptique candles and I do still want some Aesop soap and I do want to stay at the aman lol #culture #aesthetic #art #fypシ #fypviralシ
This is a very internet conversation though. If you’re out in the real world you don’t see these things as much unless you live in a major city. It becomes “tasteslop” because of social media

Some time ago I saw a video of a man admiring his girlfriend’s apartment. It was COVERED in rhinestones. Covered lol. The furniture, forks, knives, decor. There were fake Chanel “C’s” statues covered in rhinestones. Many people were making fun of her and the apartment, but I was like. No. This is actually cool. She has her own taste, her own point of view and she is unapologetic about it. We should all be so brave and know what we like. What we actually like.

“How much of you taste is actually yours?” That’s the question I wish more people would ask 😂

Ok so anybody else arrived there like 10-15-20 years ago? I mean like going to Japan, liking and buying matcha, Diptyque candles, rice paper lamps, trench coats, no labels/big bags, maybe it’s like a frequency that catches on or something?

And guess what! This idea of “taste” applies not only to design and visual expression in our lives but morals and beliefs. Developing personal taste for EVERYTHING is a shield 😄 amazing video

I learned to stop following trends when I was 12, and stopped trying to be like the cool rich kids. I'm utilitarian low maintenance and I clash beautifully.

once taste becomes more about how it's perceived and less about what it should be - taste, it becomes performance. taste is deeply personal; after all, when you put food in your mouth, you are the one experiencing it.

when you arrive at perceived motifs of taste through genuine life experiences, interests, and skills garnered through struggle & time they hit different tho

Somewhat unrelated but genuine question, at what point does calling everything the word slop become slop?

Very important!!! That’s why my #1 tip for people getting into home decor is to decorate SLOWLY and figure out what you actually like and will use in your space… tooooo many people moving in and buying everything at once only to look the exact same as 9999 other spaces

As a millennial I miss when it was kinda cringe to copy paste ppl’s steez. I think each era ppl do it to adapt or belong, but it was never this bad. We would only see a handful or so of ppl copy pasting an eclectic style and still were able to easily trace it back to its originator. I miss when ppl who originated something got more notoriety 💕.
