You missed the part the Ottoman Empire part. I know, it's not in our text books at school but it was a major factor. The British were trying to negotiate a trade deal for oil controlled by the Ottomans. Meanwhile the Germans were pursuing the same thing. The Ottomans decided to finalize the deal with Germany instead of England. After the Archduke's assassination most of Europe wanted to negotiate against actually going to war. The British pushed hard for the war because they couldn't compete with Germany's industrial militarization for one but also they wanted to get rid of the Ottoman Empire. As WW1 was being fought, England, France, and Russia sat down together with a map of the middle east and drew the lines of the counties we know to be there now. They decided who was going to control which of these middle Eastern countries once the Ottoman Empire was defeated. For some reason we don't learn about this in school, I can only assume because it makes the British Empire look bad.

If we don't learn from history we're destined to repeat it. So when the Treaty of Versailles was signed in 1919 to end the War, it became the catalyst for WWII with the rise of Hitler and the Nazis. Now fast forward to 2026 where a no teeth MOU is signed to end a War in, where else, Versailles. I wonder what that will be the catalyst to!?!

ALWAYS starts with a major shift in society/unprecedented event. Industrial Revolution, Great Depression, Covid. Crazy how time and time again we learn nothing.
