I learned long ago that if you decide to speak up about something and others say they’ll stand with you, more often than not you’ll take your stand, and when you look around, suddenly you’re all alone. But I will NEVER stop standing up for what’s right, even when it’s hard, and I’m grateful for that learning experience, as it’s shown me how strong I can be alone.

The last part really hit me. Speaking up isn’t for anyone else, it’s for you. I refuse to carry the weight of things left unsaid anymore.

This was so thought provoking. The idea of “too much” resonates with me. I’ve felt that my whole life, I was too outspoken, too much. My step father gave me a book at 13 , I think the title was “Life isn’t fair”. The purpose was to silence me. Thank you for naming this.

Yes, I’m one of 6 so 8 people in our family and this happened to me the moment I started speaking up and has required so much trust in myself to hold boundaries and not get moulded back. To the point where I still have a little voice in my head saying “are you sure you’re not the problem”. But I’m able to turn it around 💙

Sometimes I stay quiet because I just don’t have the energy to argue and I know what I say won’t go down well. Then I get annoyed with myself but also know that I need to protect my head sometimes too
