You knly have to pay if you go the private route. Ask your doctor to refer you to a psychiatrist for diagnosis. Psychiatrists are MDs and are covered by provincial health care.

I was just diagnosed with breast cancer in Ontario. There’s a test I need that tells my oncologist which type of chemo I need. It’s not covered by OHIP and it’s $3000!!!! WTF

If you go private, yes. If you get a referral from your family doctor, you can get assessed for free; however, it just takes a while until they get in contact with u (ask me how I know lmfao)😅 but yeah, I ended up going private and paying $2.5k because I got annoyed after waiting but imo it was sooo worth it

You’re obviously going through the private route. I’m also from Alberta. Get your doctor to refer to a psychiatrist and tell them that you need to be evaluated for ADHD and autism. You’re closer to Calgary so there’s two places you can go for an autism evaluation. Autism Spectrum Disorder Diagnostic Clinic and Adult Autism Diagnostic Clinic. Both are needing referrals from a family doctor. Now if your family refuses and I suggest finding a new family doctor or going into a walk-in clinic and asking for a referral.

My family dr referred me to a physchiatrist at my local health unit and I got multiple diagnoses for free. It took 2.5 years being on the waiting list but the wait was worth more than going the private route and paying thousands out of pocket.

I got diagnosed and it cost me literally nothing. im up in fort mac. I asked a dr for a referral waited a few weeks and was contacted by a shrink who diagnosed me the same day and started me on meds

If you get a referral from a doctor it doesn’t cost anything, but if you don’t want to wait then it’s out of pocket unfortunately.
