My daughter is 11 she told me she doesn’t want to get married or have kids. I understand her. And I support her.

The older I get, the more I wish I could really talk to my grandmother about her life.

I can relate. When my daughter was close to delivering her first baby recently I told her the best thing she can do is remember she is more than a mom and to find that balance for herself as a woman.

My mom's favorite color is yellow, favorite hobby is gardening and choir, favorite shows are SVU & her brit whit. Not knowing this seems somewhat odd as an adult child.

There really is something to it when a daughter says "you were a great mother. You did everything for us and I never want to be in a situation like your's." The recognition of sacrifice and loss at the same time is very profound.

That’s weird. I asked my mom questions about her interests, I observed what made her happy.

My mum also became just a mum… it was what she yearned for and she loved being a mum! Now she loves being a grandma! And now… I am just a mum and I love it too! My mum was and is a great mum, but she also had friends and did nice things for herself and for us! Anyway, my point in writing this is that motherhood is different for every person. Some love it, some hate it…

Well I hope that now the op is older she takes her mum out for nice lunches, to a spa or even on holiday. Her kids are grown up now so there should be more money to do these things. My mum bought us up worked full time and part time to make ends meet and and did all of the above, she had no time or money at all for herself, it all went on us. But when she was in her mid 40s all of her kids were grown up and for the last 30 years she has had a fantastic life full of great holidays, shopping trips and experiences. It helped that she kept her career going and then she married an amazing man who likes the good life too.

I never wanted children. I wanted to join the Navy. Got married with the dream of being in the Navy. Was begged to have just 1 child. I said ok, but you'll have to raise it cause I'm going in Navy. Husband left. He wanted to go be free. I raised our kid. I thank God everyday for my greatest gift, my kid. I still dream about the Navy.

I’m a single mom of two young adult daughters. I have been a single mom for 10 years, but truly a solo parent since they were born. I divorced their dad due to infidelity and never looked back. I have also remained single for many reasons. Navigating this journey wasn’t always easy. But I tried to show them that they can have a career, hobbies, friends and a life that did not include someone/partner that didn’t value them. You can also be a mom and still have a life outside of being a parent. We went on vacation together, dinners out, had adventures, but I also did these things with my friends. Hopefully, they are seeing a balance. If they choose to have kids one day, great. If not, that is great too.

Sadly…this is truth. I’ve told my daughter this from an early age so she is educated enough to make one of the most life changing decisions a woman can make.
