@kaelynn_vp: Some autistic people get emotionally overwhelmed by hearing news they don’t like. “It’s time to leave.” “We need to change the schedule.” “Tamyra isn’t available today.” A simple warning ⚠️ can give the brain time to prepare! Additionally, it can be helpful to tell the person ✨how they can respond✨ before you give the information. For example: “I need to explain what’s going on with Tamyra. Let me say the whole thing and then you can ask questions.” Or: “When I grab my bag, it’ll be time to get in the car. When I’m suddenly asked “wanna go to the park” i always so no but then like a minute later change my mind as everyone is leaving the house, but if i get like a 10 minute warning i say yes idk why

my audhd daughter is 11 and has no concept of time. she knows weekdays, but doesn't know how long everything takes, can't tell time etc. she can't tell you if a minute is longer than a second. we have tried a visual timer, it didn't help. any ideas on how to conceptualise time for her? we're always late for everything because she thinks time stops when she wants it to.

As a sped teacher, I go NOWHERE in school without a kitchen timer, a waiting schedule, the student’s visual schedule, and a transition item. I don’t like spontaneity either! 😂
