@cortneycoop: Boundaries are okay. What’s never okay is being a visitor in a hospital room and watching the medical staff while a patient is exposed. Leave the room or turn around, you shouldn’t have to be asked. It’s never okay to go behind the parents back to gain access to see a child in the hospital. The only way to see a child is through their parents. They make the decisions. Join your care team. Learn what you can and be involved, they are there to educate you and guide you to make educated decisions for your loved ones, trust them. Take care of yourself, you cannot be everything you need to be for your child if you don’t also fill your cup. Shower, eat, and sleep when you can. Easier said than done. This type of injury effects the whole community not just the patient. The family that has to go home at the end of the night and leave the hospital, the family who lives far away, the friends and classmates who cant comprehend what happened to their friend. You can never begin to understand how this type of experience will change you. I hope you never have to know, but if you do, be brave, stand firm and advocate for your children.
