@oneillel: Prince William paid £7.76m in tax from income generated by the Duchy of Cornwall #britishroyalfamily #newstoday #interestingfacts #princewilliam #katemiddleton
You don’t pay for the Royal Family’s lifestyle you pay for the monarchy’s official work. Their private lives are funded by their own income and assets.

the sovereign grant is not tax payer funded. it is a portion of the income from the crown estate. the crown estate income goes straight to the UK government who then decide how much the monarchy will receive

Doesn’t the sovereign grant come from the profits made by the crown estate?

It also doesn’t include the £1.1billion crown estate paid to the coffers last year. Which significantly more than the £100m the crown gets back.

Sorry, legal requirement to pay tax does not apply to the Sovereign.
Also to stress that the Sovereign Grant is not met by the tax payer but is paid by The Tread out of Crown Estate income which the Sovereign agrees to surrenfer

Of course it doesn’t include the sovereign grant. The sovereign grant isn’t income, it doesn’t go in his pocket. If you think of the monarchy like a business, or government department, the sovereign grant is their budget for the year.

The 100M a year that goes to the royal family (not just him) is balanced by the tourism revenue.
The anti-royalist estimate a 50M annul profit, the pro-royalists estimate its over a billion.

A tax is mandatory. It’s not a tax if it is a voluntary contribution.

Other than it’s highly questionable if he’s worth the salary that leads to a tax bill of this size. Not to mention the lack of transparency about how it’s been calculated

For us plebs the first thing HMRC wants to know is what was our TOTAL income and its sources, they then tell you how much you are going to pay. For some reason the royal family get to tell HMRC what they are prepared to pay without declaring how much they receive from all their sources, how is that acceptable in a democratic society.
