Told my whole life there was a teacher shortage. Thought “yes, job security for my family”. Yet here we are…feeling like I wasted the last 5 years. Also in the Central Valley.

Check multiple times a day. This is the time of summer where last minute shifts happen and positions open up that weren’t planned for. Mid-end of July is also when numbers are more finalized and often, a class or 2 have to get added! Don’t forget about the small rural towns- Reedley, Dinuba, Cutler-Orosi, Orange Cove, etc . Good luck!

I live in Modesto and it has been a nightmare! I've been looking for a job since 2024. This year alone I have submitted 36 applications on Edjoin and have only gotten 5 interviews. I currently substitute but it hasn't gotten me any closer.

Im so sorry this is happening to you :( not right now…. Also i dont know if this is “allowed” but i did not send any applications through my district portal. I instead looked up the emails of secretaries/vice principals/principals and sent them a quick little brief of my experience and addressed I was a new grad. I also attached my resume in that email. I used my personal google email. Heard back from 4 different schools. Wishing you the best of luck 🙏

Come to Northern California. The small rural districts in my county have multiple teaching positions open and some are offering signing bonuses or moving stipends.

I think we were in a shortage for the last two or three years and now where they’re shifting the budgets they’re putting more work on the teachers I already have and cutting positions because we’re having to increase salaries. At least that’s what I can say for East Tennessee.

Student teaching genuinely broke my heart. Even though, my mentor and I finished on good terms despite being put down for over half of it. I’m still too anxious to apply… 😭

All over the CV they’re having budget struggles since districts aren’t seeing that Covid money anymore. From Madera to Visalia. Of course some districts more than others but it’s due to this😭 admin and college professors have told me this :/

You have to email the principals! Say you saw they had a position posted and ask them what grades they have available or what positions and attach your resume! I was applying to get out of my school for a while and didn’t get a new position until I started emailing lol
