comment GUIDE and I’ll dm it to ya! my supplementals guide is much more specific and tailored to each school’s question, but for now, I’ll share with you my general rule of thumb with the different supplemental essay type questions: WHY MAJOR what is your personal connection to your field of interest? what has been your experience diving into this passion (going above and beyond school)? this is your opportunity to be a total nerd. when you nerd out, you demonstrate passion and mastery. you convince your reader that you are indeed equipped to take on this major. WHY US tbh, colleges already know they’re awesome! they wanna know why your special brand of awesomeness would click with their brand of awesomeness! it’s a two-way vibe check. it’s not enough to be specific about what you love about their school; you have to help the reader SEE you thriving on campus, not just taking advantage of it but impacting it for the better. DIVERSITY don’t freak out. diversity can mean MANY things beyond the usual socio-economic factors we normally think of! for example, not everyone has 3 sisters. that is certainly an experience that would impact your growing up! not everyone grew up with parents who worked at restaurants. not everyone grew up playing in the forest. things that seem mundane to you are actually quite interesting and different to your reader. CHALLENGE as long as it felt big to you, it will feel big to us. be specific in your challenge in terms of what you found challenging about it, & more importantly, how you overcame it. ROOMMATE don’t just give me a list of your random quirks; help me understand the CHARACTER or the VALUES behind things like your routine, important objects, etc. JOY do not try to make yourself appear or sound a certain way with this essay. this is not where you brag; this is where you come alive describing an activity that brings you pure joy. colleges want to make sure you are a Normal Human Being who knows how to have fun in a way that is unique to you! follow for more writing tips! ps i'm cassandra and i got into every school i applied to including all 8 ivy leagues! - @cassandracollegecoaching
