I have a playlist of all the songs that have meant something to me at different times in my life. Sometimes, it’s just one song—like A Long December by Counting Crows. My husband died in a December after spending time in hospice, so the line, “the smell of hospitals in winter,” gets me every time. And then there’s that feeling of “looking across the crowded room and seeing the way the light attaches to a girl.”
