I disagree with a lot of these comments. I understand making things easier, but I see the difference between grid & no grid. Grid is accuracy and no grid there’s expression that shows. As an artist are you trying to portray feeling & emotion or accuracy like a camera. Also if you can master without the grid then you can draw anywhere anytime anything with just mind and pencil!! just my opinion though

I attended an art class a few years ago taught by a professional artist. He encouraged and showed us how to use grids for creating artwork and ensuring scale was correct. Historically (and to this day), this is how artists work! finding ways to make art easier and more effective. we don’t need to make it harder for ourselves just to prove something. I like to turn my references black and white for example to show the values rather than trying to figure out in colour. it’s all about techniques! Well done for understanding proportions though, I would definitely still say that is important.

Been practicing like this a lot, and now every time I see a person, they're just 3D shapes instead of humans. How do I unsee it?😭

As an artist myself, did you ever think you might've gotten better as all artists do. Try the grid method now and see how it compares..

Refused to do grid menthol in an art101 class I needed to take for credits- it feels icky to use it when I can just learn anatomy. I got a 0 for my midterm because of it. Fuck the grid method.

it's good to use the grid method if you aim to just fully copy a reference rather than learning anatomy.

As an artist who doesn't draw, I'd love to inspire someone enough that they'd want to draw me. I know how powerful inspiration can be, whether it comes from a person, a landscape, or anything else.I get emotional when my little sister draws me, even if she doesn't do it very often anymore.

I’ve come to the conclusion both will give different results with neither one superior over the other , it mostly will come down to the final outcome desired that will inform which path to take . I do however think it’s a really good thing to learn all types of drawing systems .

It wasn’t the grid method btw , it was the lack of values on your drawings . Grid method only helps with proportions , not depth .

So I’ve been watching a lot of your videos. I get the process but have a hard time actually applying it. Im used to shading after my drawings done. What are the names for the methods you use? I’d like to do more research

I used the grid method, but I create upside down. I’m not sure why, but my brain can see the proportions of what I want to create better when it is upside down.
