as an artist who adores fujimoto, i think hes really just tired. do you have any idea how much work goes into creating a chapter every week? scripting, sketching, inking, beta, screentones, editing, etc. trying to keep that up for years takes an astronomical amount of energy. its quite literally impossible to keep up the same output and quality. and theres the mental drag of working on the same project for years. he draws similar things constantly, not venturing out to learn or hone new skills, so its only natural that it starts to look a little sloppy after a while. hopefully with some rest and freedom we'll see him venture out of his comfort zone and see some experimental art

I believe I saw a quote where Fujimoto said he wouldn’t mind just working with another artist on a future project. I genuinely think he just might be burnt out from ever drawing a weekly manga again.

its because fujimoto moved from paper drawning onto digital drawing + rushing over the deadlines, and thus not being able to master it properly as it was before, thats why his style changed, but its only temporary. He just needs a really good break

The problem with non-artist talking about artstyle is they really don’t know what an artstyle is. In case of Fujimoto, it seems like it’s less an artstyle thing and more of an execution problem to apply the fundamentals of his style. It does seem like maybe his health has affected his draftmabship or simply that the weekly grind actually got too much for him. But at no point his ”artstyle” changed that much. It’s still relatively has the same proportions and types of stylization

I think what rly kills it is the fact that isn't any weight to anything. it's all the same thickness no matter what and it just makes it not rly enjoyable to look at. especially when (imo) that art style only rly works if there is color to it
