You know, the saddest part of all of this is, the stuff that's actually worth tons of money are the OG Pokémon cards, comic books, video games, and Bratz dolls that you were forced to give/throw away when you reached a certain age because "you're not a kid anymore."

My dad got me a boxed set of baseball cards and told me to keep it forever because it was an investment. It cost him $30 in 1990. Today on eBay that set goes for $29.99.

I poured a cup of coffee for my grandfather and he went ballistic. the cup was some "collectable" he gave me years before. he said it's worth money and should be on a shelf! I showed him they were selling on eBay for $3. he was pretty sad sipping his coffee.

My Mom collected Precious Moment figures - but only to represent the precious moments in her life like the birth of me and my brother, her wedding etc. She passed and I have her Christmas Village, and that’s special to me because she actually LIKED them!

My grandma would give me beanie babies to collect and told me to keep the tag on. My mom bought me the holiday barbie and told me to keep it in the box. I played with them both, because why would you give a child a toy they can't play with?

General rule of thumb: anything that is marketed as "collectable" or like it will be super desirable in the future, won't be. What makes things that way is that they become scarce, and the demand will stay the same.
