From the beginning of her career, she chose independence over a conventional path, and that decision continues to define her work. Her architecture starts by questioning everything: the commission, the program, the material, the technique, and even the way the body moves through space. That critical position is visible in the language of her projects. Glass creates distance without fully separating. Metal introduces precision and sharpness. Red is used as a spatial force, bringing energy, movement, and intensity. One of the clearest examples is the restaurant at the Paris Opera. Inside a protected historic building, Decq inserts a new architectural layer that does not imitate the old structure. A continuous red surface moves between the existing columns without touching them, while glass elements appear almost detached from the original envelope. The contrast is deliberate, controlled, and unmistakably contemporary. That is what makes her work so distinct. Odile Decq does not treat architecture as something fixed. She treats it as something that can always be challenged, redefined, and pushed further.
