There is no official evidence that BTS was ever finalized as an 8-member group. Kim Ji-hoon has confirmed that he trained with the members and left before debut, but neither he nor Big Hit has ever said he was the "8th member." He was one of several trainees considered during the pre-debut period. The final 7-member lineup appears to have been established after the trainee lineup changed, so calling him "the almost 8th member" is fan speculation, not a confirmed fact.
