I never properly celebrated my 16th birthday because u went through a friendship break up the day before and people cancelled even tho i planned it for months before. I really wanted that one birthday to be a big deal because i never thought i would make it to this age and my birthday is never ever a big thing since moving away from my home country.

didn’t participate in any of it besides once in eighth grade, figured out i didn’t belong at those things because my anxiety got too bad or i just sat in the corner anyway. but really wish i would’ve now. only participated in my senior trip.

I know I don't know you, but I missed out on a lot of high school too. I'm old (thirty something) now and I promise you'll miss it less and less. You'll make new friends and so many new memories that a few bad years will just be a dot in the rearview. Keep your head up, life is what you make of it.

What hurts me the most is that I never had my prom. A lot of stuff happened leading up to prom, enough stuff to make me realise I was going to be put at risk by going. So I made the decision to not go. It’s been two years and every time it hits prom season I’m reminded that I was never given the same luck as my peers. Whilst they enjoyed a day of celebration, I spent mine sleepless in my parent’s bed out of comfort.
