To me, the issue is that we all knew the end was coming soon for Farrah Fawcett, so many of her fans were grieving her ahead of time, and her passing was a relief, an end to her suffering. Michael's was a genuine WTF‽‽ moment but there was no indication that there was anything seriously wrong with him, and no one could have possibly guessed the circumstances behind his death.
