You don’t owe an explanation to anyone, labels are designed for the convenience of other people so they know where to placeholder you in their belief system. Keep doing you, love who you love, live how you live, and do it for yourself. Any person or group that makes you feel like you need to explain yourself doesn’t sound like a healthy connection, not one that should be sustained 💛

Hmm, it kinda sounds like you’re wanting to be a part of the community without being part of it at the same time. Being masculine and not into clubbing/rupaul doesn’t ostracise you from the gay community. The gay clubbing scene is a tiny percentage of the community. Perhaps look at things you like doing for eg. going to the gym and seeing if there’s a class for lgbt people.

It shouldn’t matter what you are what you look like if you go to the gym if you don’t go to the gym being mass or being feminine you are who you are. Maybe we’re just hanging out with the wrong LGBT people. There’s so many people out there like yourself. Who think they need to be accepted but really you just need to be yourself and everyone around you will like you for you.

Thank you for sharing. It's reassuring that others have similar experiences of feeling a great challenge in fitting in and feeling accepted by your gay peers. what's more reassuring is all the great responses here supporting the idea that this struggle is valid, but not hopeless. We will find out people. I hope you find your people and feel accepted.

I’m gay, married (to a man), and I can relate to this. We just gotta do what gives us joy and makes us happy, and those that resonate with us will come into our lives 🙂 But I hear what you’re saying and get it.

I feel exactly the same way! I’m a gay man that also finds the connection with the gay community to be difficult because I show up as more masculine presenting. I do find it easier to hangout with straight friends as well. Don’t change yourself to be accepted by others find those that accept you just as you are!

Boxes and stereotypes. Don’t let anyone put you into any of them. Everything is a spectrum and can’t be defined by a simple template. Be who you want, when you want. People need to get over the need to label and judge others based on limited information.
