@anita.daphneee: this made my day 😭 #bananafish #ashlynx #eijiokumura #anime insights: “Banana Fish is categorized as a shojo (manga aimed at young women) primarily because it was serialized in the Japanese shojo magazine Bessatsu Shojo Comic . In Japan, a manga's demographic is determined by its publication magazine rather than its content. While the gritty crime thriller deals with intense mafia violence, government corruption, and heavy trauma, it fits the shojo label for several defining storytelling reasons:Focus on Emotional Depth: Rather than focusing solely on action, Banana Fish centers heavily on the psychological trauma, personal growth, and deep, protective bond between the two male leads, Ash Lynx and Eiji Okumura./Emphasis on Relationships: Even without explicit romance, the narrative prioritizes emotional salvation, devotion, and character-driven drama, which are hallmarks of the shojo genre./The Male Lead as the Object of Fascination: Ash Lynx is characterized by his breathtaking beauty and tragic vulnerability, a classic shojo archetype used to captivate the reader./Absence of Traditional Male Tropes: The series notably lacks standard shonen tropes, such as male-targeted fan service or a "damsel in distress" female character.” “Banana Fish is a manga that has mainly shonen elements, wrapped with heavy emotions between characters and elements of love to cater to a shoujo audience. It was unique and a perfect balance of shonen and shoujo. And that's why it's such a masterpiece because you get the thrill of shonen with the more emotional notes of shoujo. Perfection. If you ask me. Ending- See she was writing a character who dies young basically. If it was Shonen, she could have made the ending not about love. Maybe like Joe no Ashita (dies fighting in the boxing ring). A final battle death could work. Maybe Yut-Lung would have been more powerful (a last one-on-one battle). But this is Shoujo. So she gives him a death more connected with love. She brings in his connection with Eiji. A person who touched Ash at a deep place. So, in fact, she gives him a happy ending in her own way. A salvation of sorts with the words of Eiji. His final moments are about knowing he is loved. The loneliest thing in the world to me would be to die alone. But I see the letter as Eiji’s presence. His words surround Ash in a warm hug.”
