@alsword: Kingdom of Hejaz Research into the issue of the Ottoman Caliphate and the Arabs’ stance toward it began after the deposition of Sultan Abdul Hamid II in 1909. Arab newspapers started reporting that the princes of the Arabian Peninsula were determined to establish a union that would bring them together, based on the idea of appointing a caliph from among themselves, to whom they would pledge allegiance and under whose banner they would unite. The main reason that led the Arabs to seek independent decision-making was the oppression they suffered under the Committee of Union and Progress after it overthrew Sultan Abdul Hamid II. Following their disappointment with the new constitutional era, many Arabs began declaring that the bond of the Caliphate had come to an end. #History #تاريخ #اكسبلور #hejaz #arab
