@ngakohuwalker: The uhi is one of the most sacred tools in traditional ta moko and taurāpe (pūhoro). Before the needle, before modern methods, the uhi carved into the skin — not just to create design, but to carry whakapapa, status, identity, and story. Each stroke was deliberate, rhythmic, and deeply tapu. To begin my journey with the uhi is to acknowledge that this isn’t decoration — it’s lineage, responsibility, and connection to those who carried this practice long before us.
