People get angry or disappointed with someone else or with situations they can’t control, and then they take it out on the people they know love them because they believe love will always forgive. That alone shows how often people treat strangers better than their own family. They would never speak to an outsider the way they speak to a parent, a husband, a wife, a son, or someone whose love they take for granted. He’ll learn eventually. He lost his parents. Yes, he has Rip and Beth now, and that’s a blessing, but it’s still hard. He’s a teenager, dealing with all the hormones, emotions, and everything that comes with growing up. He’s also spending time with someone who’s smarter than he is (Oriana), and she’s clearly carrying her own emotional baggage too. Even Rip has had his ups and downs. He’s been through far worse than Carter. He’s been humiliated by Beth—the person he loves—and pushed aside by John in favor of his own children. John knew Rip would understand because he was certain of Rip’s love and loyalty. That’s often how people treat the ones they know will stay. He’s growing up, and he’s been given a chance at a better life—something most of us never get. I really hope he grows up in the right direction. I’m Team Carter.
