It’s day one of ADHD awareness month and I want to share some of my favorite topics I have covered in the past along with some new and helpful videos sprinkled throughout this month. Starting with this oldie but a f*cking goodie because having time for s//ggs doesn’t mean your brain and body have caught up with the f*cking calendar. An erection, lubrication, or an org4sm isn’t a reliable report card on how much you want someone. Stress, distraction, pressure, and everything else competing for your attention can interfere with s//ggsual response. Automatically translating that into meaning that your partner isn’t attracted to you or that there is something wrong with you can add even more pressure. A little science clarification with this repost: I simplified the nervous system sequence in the video. S//gsual response involves coordinated sympathetic, parasympathetic, and somatic activity. Sympathetic activation can also support arousal; it isn’t reserved for org4sm and while research links ADHD with s//ggsual difficulties, it does NOT establish that executive function overload explains every erection or org4sm difficulty. That connection is an ADHD informed way of exploring possible barriers, not a proven explanation for what your body is doing. Also, cortisol doesn’t follow one universal pattern during s//ggs as its response varies, and an increase isn’t evidence that stress helps arousal. 📚References: PMID 32402814, 27371161, 23841462, 22092348, 1862496, 42225467, 40036286, 36493660, 35113273 Disclaimer: This is education, not therapy or a diagnosis. ADHD, autism, and perimenopause can look very different from person to person and they’re only part of a bigger picture. Your health, history, environment, relationships, and what’s happening in your life all shape the experience. If you’re dealing with ongoing distress, conflict, or harm, work with a qualified professional. #adhd #relationships #adhdawareness
