A lot of Christians use that argument to deflect questions about the Bible rather than giving a proper response and explaining what the verses mean. Not all of the Old Testament is completely retconned in the New Testament. Many of the laws of the Old Testament still apply except for certain ones created only for that time such as the parts talking about slavery. Those parts ARE completely retconned in the New Testament and were only true laws until Jesus's birth and death. Unlike the verse the man mentioned. The verse the man mentioned is still upheld in the New Testament and is still a law of God. To sum it up quickly, some laws in the Old Testament still matter in the New Testament and some do not.
