Fire cider is a traditional herbal tonic made by infusing roots, herbs, spices and citrus in raw apple cider vinegar. It’s spicy, warming and packed with ingredients traditionally used to support immune health, digestion and overall wellness, especially during cold and flu season. There is no single right way to make fire cider. Use what you have, what you enjoy and what you can find. Here’s what went into mine: Orange: rich in vitamin C, an essential nutrient for normal immune function. Red onion: provides quercetin and other antioxidants that help protect cells from oxidative stress. Lemon: another natural source of vitamin C and antioxidants that support normal immune function. Jalapeños: the capsaicin gives fire cider its heat and may help temporarily open up the nose and make congestion feel a little easier. Fresh turmeric: valued for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and commonly used to support overall wellness. Fresh ginger: warming, anti-inflammatory and especially well known for supporting digestion and helping with nausea. 1 head of garlic, cut in half: traditionally used for immune support and studied for potential antimicrobial and antiviral activity. Bay leaves: traditionally used to support digestion and add warming aromatic flavor to herbal preparations. Fresh thyme: traditionally used for respiratory support and coughs and valued for its antimicrobial properties. Fresh rosemary: rich in antioxidants and traditionally used to support digestion and circulation. Peppercorns: support digestion, add warmth and contain piperine, which can help increase the absorption of curcumin from turmeric. Whole cloves: rich in antioxidants and traditionally valued for their antimicrobial and soothing properties. 2 cinnamon sticks: warming, antioxidant rich and traditionally used to support digestion and healthy blood sugar regulation. Star anise: traditionally used for digestive and respiratory support and gives fire cider its distinctive warming flavor. Fill the jar with raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar with the mother, making sure everything is completely covered. And then… the ingredient I almost forgot. 😂 1 tablespoon of dried oregano: traditionally used for immune and respiratory support and valued for its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Because vinegar is acidic, I placed a piece of parchment paper between the jar and the metal lid. This prevents the vinegar from touching the metal and helps avoid corrosion and rust. Seal the jar and BAM. Fire cider in the making. 🔥 Now we let all that goodness infuse for 4-6weeks and will be ready by then! enjoy 😉 #firecider #wellness #wellnesstips #coldseason #naturalremedy
