Capturing Autumn in a Bottle, with @Ffern There’s a fleeting, magical moment each year when the apples and pears hang heavy on the orchard boughs, the hedgerow herbs make their swan song, and the last of summer’s scented blooms dance on a breeze that carries the faint smell of woodsmoke rising up the valley. Every year I watch eagerly for the golden-leaved heralds of Autumn - already nostalgic for it before it has even passed. Preserving the harvest feels like the only way to hold on to this moment in time. Ffern’s seasonal fragrances do just that: distilling the glories of each season into a bottle that tells an entire love story in a single breath. Ffern Autumn 25 fragrance is a celebration of the harvest bounty. A feast of crab apple, pear, blue chamomile and tuberose. It feels both a festivity of abundance and a soft, floral warmth to carry us into the darker months. I was inspired by Ffern to do a little bottling of the season myself. Mine took the form of fermenting cider and perry. Using traditional techniques and hand tools in a process that held its own quietness and timelessness.
