Gariep Dam is the largest dam in SA by volume. Downstream of Gariep is also a dam similar in design, Van Der Kloof Dam. Both dams are what we call double-curvature arch gravity dams. We're able to inspect the dam all the way to the foundation, going through the dam's gallery (concrete lined "tunnels").

Ever heard about a very small town named Midshaft? After the tunnel was completed this town was broken down. It was exactly 32 km from Steynsburg direction Venterstad
