As a gay man I think there’s far to many boxes and labels , maybe everyone should try the word “Human” and let it be done bcos when all said and done that’s what we all are 💯

Was having a similar conversation with my friend the other week, ‘gay’ definitely does feel like the opposite side of the coin to ‘straight’ and I don’t feel I connect with either. Queer feels a lot more freeing to make your own rules about relationships and expression.

The word “queer”, to me as a 48 year old gay man, still has that initial uncomfortable impact because it was a slur. It is getting less and I love that it’s been reclaimed and has a whole new meaning. 🥰🥰🥰 “Queer” is a bridge word, perhaps.

I’m the opposite. I’m gay, I’m not queer, queer is a slur and it’s origin means ‘strange’ rather than gay which originally meant ‘happy’

Seems that you both have a very short sighted view of the word gay. Gay is an umbrella and fluid term for people who are attracted to their same sex. You don’t have to put yourselves into specific genres if you don’t want to.

I am completely absent from the muscle gay, nightlife, vapid existence of the London "gay" experience but Gay just feels the correct term for me. I feel Queer is someone who actively participates in all of the wider LGBT culture outside of drugs, gym and clubbing.
