In the language of flowers, the Buttercup traditionally carries the symbolic meaning of growth, youthfulness, memories of childhood good health, ambition and self esteem. In the Victorian language of flowers, buttercups were sent in bouquets to say that a person’s youthful nature was appreciated but alone as an insult.   In Native American tale the Coyote, a trickster. liked to take his eyes and toss them up into the air, enjoying the view. When Eagle swooped down to steal them, he had to use Buttercups as his new eyes.    In Greek mythology the word Ranunculus was a youth noted for his gorgeous green and yellow silk clothing. His melodious voice  there are a number of stories attached to him, when singing to a group of wood nymphs and he became so enratured with his own music that he died in ecstasy. So Orpheus transformed him into the Ranunculus flower.
