@thebritspot: Some US restaurants are now automatically adding 20% gratuity during the World Cup because they expect international visitors to tip less do 👀💸 "There's been a lot of tables that have come in and had a tab of almost $700," a waitress said in an interview with the New York Post. She further explained that fans not tipping is purely ignorance rather than poor manners. "They've already spent a lot of money to be here in the first place," other staff said, however they think its key to embrace the local customs. "I think if you do come here, you should just engage in the culture because I think you'll have a better time." Meanwhile, many European fans have stated, "Don't bully us for tips, pay your workers better."

That’s not culture. It’s under payment by employers.

"Engage in the culture because they'll have a better time"
I've never had a better time when spending unnecessary money, in fact, it worsens my time.

a tip is not for doing the job, that's called a wage. a tip is for service above.

what should be mandatory is to advertise the actual price.
In Denmark a 20 dollar burger will cost you exactly 20 dollars.

The employer is responsible for paying a living wage, not the customers.

Restaurants in Europe are not more expensive than in the US, still the staff gets a normal salary. Tips are a small token of appreciation for good service, or just a roundup of the bill

No way would pay for someone to bring a drink to a table. It’s their job. So employers pay them to do that job not me.

Because in Europe, the employer pays their employees. This is how it works... Customer pays business, business pays staff. It's a simple formula
