this is not true whatsoever the way I was taught at the shop and it was by ASE certified Master technicians and I. even stated on the ASE exam to always hook it up to a negative on the battery. never to the vehicle's body

or just connect to the dead battery first and then the fully charged one which doesn't give off any gas 👍

part of the reason you connect the last clamp, the negative clamp, to the engine block ( not the car body like in the video ) is because a charging battery will emit hydrogen gas as its charging. So when you Disconnect the clamp, you disconnect the negative clamp from the engine block.
Often the engine block has a metal ring thing bolted to it from when they fit the engine, connect to this.
But another thing is that the starter motors earth is mostly connected direct to the engine and there's a copper cable between starter-engine-battery negative terminal.
By bypassing the cable from the starter-engine-battery, you get power direct to the starter.
if part of the problem was a bad earth to the starter, you bypassed it.

Why would positive be first? If the negative is already installed that means you’re already grounded which is what actually causes the spark. The negative doesn’t cause a spark
