@tokyo.salaryman.life: My ¥55,000 Tokyo Apartment Comes With a Hidden Cost | 90-Minute Commute as a Japanese Salaryman - My rent in Tokyo is only ¥55,000 ($340 USD) a month. Sounds like a great deal, right? The catch is that I spend 90 minutes commuting every day just to get to work. Like many Japanese salarymen, I chose a cheap apartment far outside central Tokyo because living closer is simply too expensive. That means crowded trains, long walks, tiny living spaces, and coming home exhausted. This is the side of Japan that tourists rarely see—the reality of working in Tokyo, Japan’s work culture, long commutes, and the everyday life of an ordinary office worker. I’m sharing my unfiltered life as a Tokyo salaryman, including the struggles, small victories, and honest moments behind life in one of the world’s busiest cities. If you’re interested in the reality of living and working in Japan, follow along for more unfiltered stories from Tokyo. #creatorsearchinsights #Tokyo #Japan #Salaryman #WorkCulture

In Canada people spend millions of dollars on a place to commute 90 minutes to work in the city. It’s the same everywhere.

Just 90minutes? Imagine my country you have to commute 2hrs to go to office and another 3hrs to go back home. And if it rains add additional hour.

Now it makes sense as to why I’ve seen so many people sleeping on the trains. I have met some of the kindest people here in this beautiful country. You all deserve better. 💗

I just realised this after 4x visits, it's really different if your are visiting Japan for 5-10 days and staying in one perfecture like Tokyo, you are amazed of the skyscrapers, temples and beautiful things. But once it became a normal sight for you, it becomes a boring place and depressing environment

I’m traveling in your country, and I’ve fallen in love with the food, scenery, the culture, anime… honestly, everything here. But I can’t say the same about the way people seem to live. I can feel the exhaustion and pressure that so many carry every day. I truly hope you will find a happier, more balanced life someday. 💪

I'm no math genius but if you make 1700$ and rent is 340$ that means you have enough money to afford a car. crowded trains is solved, and if traffic is too bad to get back home sleeping in a car is much more comfortable than a park bench.

Get a cheap motorcycle don't know if its actually faster than your hour journey 1 way on the train but it definitely would save you 30 minutes walking each way and you'd never have to worry about missing the train.
