One of the most special songs of my life is Shut Up and Drive by Chely Wright. From the first time I first heard that note it had the power to activate something in me. It makes me remember the moment at a festival in 1999 and I heard those notes and went running to barricade and found myself standing way too close to speakers in new boots like I’d be young and invincible forever. This song has followed me through the years in such a beautiful way. I love every version but seeing a video of her singing it with @shellyfairchild at the concert for love and acceptance when I was trying to find proof of things I remembered vaguely was special. Then Shelly covered it in St. Croix and I got to watch over livestream as I heard those first notes that I would know anywhere. Then I saw video from @Ashley McBryde residency show back in January and I was struck with how tiny and perfect this world is. That it all really does boil down to the power of a song and the people who sing them. My three role models all singing the same song.
