I’ve heard my friend that isn’t part of lgbtq+ say that and it really got on my nerves. Our whole group was js talking abt our sexuality’s and most of us are bisexual or gay/lesbian, but we have a few straight friends in the main group. Once she was talking she said “no no im not in that alphabet community, like no offense but its not for me.” And then she continued to go on about how it’s funny to go by labels in the “alphabet community’s” and had a really rude laugh about it but she kept saying that she wasn’t homophobic.

It became too much. Did you know that « gay » didn’t even mean « a man attracted to another man » at first but every one attracted to someone not in the straight way ? Which means it was first « the gay community » and « gay pride » even a lesbian was gay, a bi was gay, and THEN it became LGBT and then LGBTQ and THEEEN LGBTQIA+ but I’m sorry it’s too much and ridiculous now. « Queer » even means all and nothing at the same time, it’s just another way to say gay. And the fact some realized it became too much so added the + at the end… Alphabet at this point is just more simple and prettier to say if you ask me. Sorry not sorry.

I’ve heard alphabet mafia as well in the queer community, but they say it in a way (from my experience) that sounds like “i’m not that type of gay.” 🙄

I’ve heard us referred to as the alphabet mafia, but that’s only from other lgbtqia people. I thought it was cute, but that’s coming from us. Alphabet soup from a conservative is only going to come off as offensive

I have been on TikTok since 2020 and there was queer creators referring to it as the alphabet mafia. But I haven’t seen that for a while

I’m a fully affirming (hetero) pastor in an affirming church/denomination and I prefer using the word ‘queer’ because I’m afraid that I’ll forget a letter (or the plus). With all due respect, LGBTQIA just gets to be a lot. But I can totally see where ‘alphabet soup’ can come across as not just cute but demeaning.

I work as a moderator for a very important website where people get to write their opinion a out something and when people were trying to be sneaky about their homophobia the would use phrases like "The alphabet people" when trying to be offensive. It start happening about 4 years ago. I have never heard someone use it in real life, but they used it there in text form A LOT!.
