@chidiakusobi: Nature, yes THEE nature just admitted that we scientists need to grab the mic and enter our voices into the public conversation. Nature just published an article arguing that the future of science commutation is not the scientific journal, but rather social media. Yes we know they’re late, but it matters that a journal as prestigious and storied as Nature is advocating that more scientists should pick up their phones, turn their cameras on, and start making scientific content. I love this idea and while its admirable I do point out two issues with this call to action. Science communication especially on social media is unrecognized and largely unpaid. In our world, this work doesn’t translate to promotions, grants, or even prestige. Two - communicating well on social media is a real skill. Scientists are going to need carved out time and support if they’re going to compete with professional influencers. @nature #sciencecommunication #scicomm #physician #scientist
