An elderly woman using a handrail to help her climb steps and exit a London Tube station was blocked by a man – who filmed her and refused to move, telling her to use her “legs” to go around him as he was “relaxing”. The footage, that has outraged people on social media, shows the pensioner climbing the stairs as the man films her. When she asks him to move, calmly explaining that she wants to “come up the stairs”, he refuses. He then tells her, “don’t touch me”, warning the pensioner that he is “recording”. When she reiterates her wish to pass, the man says, “I'm here relaxing”, and suggests she “go around”. The pensioner explains she can’t, and he replies: “You can, you’ve got legs”. The woman explains that she is 80 years old, to which he replies: “So.” After telling the pensioner, again, that he is filming, she replies: "I don't give a damn what you're doing. You're extremely rude and arrogant." The video ends when the pensioner appeals to a man in hi-vis, who was also walking up the stairs for help, telling him the other man would not let her pass. The incident is thought to have happened at Harrow and Wealdstone station in north London on Wednesday. Commenters on social media were outraged by the exchange and alarmed that the man didn’t simply “move and help her up the stairs”, pointing out that the rail exists for a reason. Responding to the incident, Transport for London's lead for Customer Insight, Strategy and Experience Mark Evers said: "This behaviour is extremely disappointing and completely unacceptable. "We expect customers travelling on our network to treat each other with respect at all times.
