This is all very simple. The writer is describing a mature Christian. He gives a list of what he says one is. If that born again man chooses to renounce his salvation there is no more chance for forgiveness.

I’m a reformed Presbyterian and I firmly believe that you can walk away from your covenant promises in the same way people walk away from their marriages. It doesn’t change how I view God’s sovereignty, or the prodigal son. To me, assurance is about knowing that when we repent, God will always forgive and will always keep his promises to us, as we receive them in faith.
