a good sysadmin would know a 20min reimage is far superior to manual intervention when you only need the base system and like 2 apps

just lost my 2 year Linux os because I tried to dual boot windows to play darktide. I'm devastated. I did everything right and now the drive is dead.

It’s sometimes way easier to start fresh than unfuck your current setup. With a proper install script and single purpose machines it shouldn’t be an issue.

create a fresh install, take a snapshot, load snapshot when your computer is having issues you can't fix

I don't actually have an issue with this because not every linux user needs to be a sysadmin. Some people just want to use their computer.

Um we run Windows exclusively at work for end users and if something is stumping us you bet we're re-imaging.

Like I get you’re supposed to use those issues to learn things… but just doing a fresh install is so easy lmao

Caveat: when you understand how to fix the issue and know that it'll take way longer than reimaging the computer. Those types of issues are rare, and it does make me feel a little guilty, but I'm not wasting a whole day when I could have the customer taken care of in less than an hour

yeah grab logs and reinstall of your past working image is the correct path because then you read the logs and prevent the issue from occuring in the future and instantly are already working again

Yeah, that was the first thing they taught me in school. Reinstalling isn’t the way. You’re taking shit out of production.

Did you learn to fix an issue that could. E quicker next time sure, but how mwny other tasks and projects do you have? Sometimes it's better to do a reinstall to save time than it is to spending too much time fixing something, especially in a business environment.

everything on my users PCs are backed up in two different locations, one even having a backup of its own. the other is onedrive. I don't even reinstall the OS. I pull a laptop off the shelf that's already freshly imaged and hand that to them. then reimage their old one and put it on the shelf for the next user. 🤷🏻♂️it's 100000x faster than fixing the issue.
