![Do rainy evenings hit differently? In Brașov, they certainly do. A fine drizzle settles over the old town like a silk curtain, softening the edges of centuries-old facades while the narrow streets glow beneath lantern light. Between stone walls that have witnessed merchants, pilgrims and empires come and go, restaurants spill warmth onto wet cobblestones and hidden bars hum quietly behind heavy wooden doors. Above it all rises Tampa Mountain, its forested slope cradling the city as the illuminated BRAȘOV sign watches over the rooftops like a patient sentinel. Founded by Saxon settlers in the 13th century, Brașov grew into one of Transylvania’s most important trading centers, protected by guilds, fortified walls and watchtowers that still punctuate the landscape today. The old town unfolds beneath Tampa in a maze of lanes where Gothic spires, Baroque facades and medieval gateways coexist without ceremony. On nights like this, rain transforms the city into a gallery of reflections. The stones shine. The church towers sharpen against the mist. The scent of fresh bread, simmering stews and dark coffee drifts through streets that have remained remarkably unchanged for generations. Perhaps that is the real magic of Brașov. Not the monuments, nor the famous mountain above it, but the way the city makes time feel negotiable. Standing beneath the glow of the BRAȘOV sign, watching droplets gather on ancient rooftops, it becomes easy to imagine every traveler who paused here before us, drawn by the same flickering lights and mountain shadows.
