@uctvuganda: Rights Activists Walk Out of UN Anti-Torture Meeting - Disagreement Over Discussion of Alleged Torture Cases Disrupts UN Commemoration Event Human rights activists walked out of a meeting commemorating the United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture after a disagreement over discussions on alleged cases of torture. The event, held under the theme "Taking Stock of Successes and Challenges in Protecting Freedom from Torture, Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment or Punishment," brought together human rights defenders, civil society organizations, and government representatives to reflect on efforts to combat torture. The protest began after activists attempted to present accounts of alleged torture involving some of their colleagues but were stopped by the Uganda Human Rights Commission's Legal Director, Pauline Nansamba, who advised that the matters were before the courts and should not be discussed during the meeting.
