just a tip that my pediatrician gave us was never wake a sleeping baby. this might be a old school tip, but it is true. newborn babies will wake up exactly at the time that they have to feed and it's basically a cycle that you just refresh all day when they wake up you feed them, you change them and you put them back to sleep until they hit 4 months old where they are not a newborn anymore and they stay up a little later or they'll go to sleep a little earlier or they'll play a little longer. jose are things that you need to think about and I say this because my son was constipated for 11 months of his life because we thought we had to feed him every 2 to 3 hours when he was a newborn and when we took into the pediatrician for the constipation she specified to us that we should not be feeding him at you every 2 to 3 hours that we should be feeding him every time he wakes up because that's all he's going to do is sleep all day whenever he wakes up. that's when you feed him

if you’re ever doubting your supply please remember #1 breastfed babies do eat more than formula babies because they digest the milk a lot faster ! #2 cluster feeding is totally normal in the newborn stage, they have a ton of growth spurts and other than wanting to eat , they also just want to be on for comfort ! it can be discouraging and mentally draining but you got this! BF is super hard but it’s also very rewarding if you are able to push through the hard stuff (even if you can’t it’s okay fed is best !) me typing this at 1 am feeding my 2 wk old lollll

i PROMISE if he is latching, eating, having dirty diapers, and gaining weight, you don’t need to obsess over the amount. 1 year in i still have no idea how much my baby is getting at the breast. you are completely valid for worrying but it’s all supply and demand ESPECIALLY the first 3 weeks (meaning when you drain the breast). if you get in the habit of pumping every time after it will cause oversupply which is actually not always a good thing and unnecessary in most cases. you are only producing a small amount of colostrum because that’s all that he needs. his stomach is the size of a cherry which i know that you know. but just reassuring you that your milk will make her appearance very soon and you won’t be so engorged after a few weeks. you’re doing amazing. breastfeeding is so hard at first but so so so fulfilling. keep up the amazing work sadie!!!🥰🩵🩵🩵

hey girl i’ve been following your whole pregnancy bc we were the same gestationl! i just gave birth on the 22nd at 39 weeks after being induced due to preeclampsia that developed out of nowhere. i am absolutely exhausted and also trying to breastfeed. when you’re sitting up awake and sleep deprived, just know there is one mama on the other side of the world up with you in the same boat!! i hope you are recovering well!!🩷

Something I didn’t know when my baby was a newborn is that if he is breast fed, they can go up to 10 days without having a bowel movement. Seems so crazy but there’s no much waste from your BM, it’s all full on things their bodies need so there’s not as many #2 diapers then #1. Once it gets to about 8 days since a #2, I do recommend contacting your doctor just to make them aware.

as long as he’s eating gaining weight sleeping well definitely don’t stress about how much she’s getting while breast-feeding I breast-fed both times and I have no idea how much milk my kids have gotten still to this day! In the hospital, they make you time the feeding but I always go by don’t ever wake a sleeping baby. I’ve also heard and have done this with both. My kids. Babies will eat better when they are ready to eat versus being forced to eat!

My little boy just turned 5 weeks yesterday, if you need someone to talk to please message me!! His little belly is so small he’s getting enough, he just wakes up so much to eat because it is so small and breastmilk is digested super fast! Hydrate and eat as much as you can!! I know it can feel so isolating, even with having the best husband, so if you ever need anything like I said message me!!

One thing that eased my mind with how much the girls were getting was the hatch baby scale and app. You weigh them before they eat and then after so you can see how many oz they’re getting. Then you can also compare it to other days and months etc as they get older. Not a requirement of course but it was helpful for me.
